One of the primary goals of the site is to encourage discovery and learning, and to have all of our users obtain a level of literacy in health and nutrition. Such proficiency builds over time from reading articles, adding to our reference (it's all one big wiki) and through many interactions with thinjoy's other features. One thing that really makes the library effective is that the whole system is integrated. Users can link strategies to reference articles or vice versa, users can also send articles, strategies or stubs to friends. This allows information and ideas to be easily and efficiently disseminated including to those users who choose not to spend too much time reading reference articles.
Our recommended reading includes the rules that hold our system together and several sections that we think are especially important in fashioning healthy weight loss strategies. In reading the recommended reading you will learn the latest and best information in nutrition and weight loss management, and any science related to it.
The reference material included in the library is one big wiki and any user can add articles or add content. Over time we hope to build on this vast resource and we hope you will assist us in this endeavor. While there are many advantages in having our reference work as an open wiki, this is especially useful in the field of nutrition and health science, where information is broad and tends to have a rather short half-life.
The body log allows users to keep track of their weight or other body metrics.
Most users weigh in on regular intervals as outlined in whichever strategy they choose to adopt. The frequency of logging their weight is entirely up to the user, but users are encouraged to do it as frequent as possible.
Users can also keep track of any other measurement they want such as waist, wrists or upper arms. Recently as the risks associated with abdominal obesity have become known we highly recommend keeping track of waist measurement.
For those users who really want to dive into the details of the food they are eating we offer a comprehensive food search that displays and graphs the nutritional content of everything in our database. For each food we provide the information for up to eighty different nutrients.
Also found in the food search feature is a place for users to add new items to the database. Entry is quick and easy.
For those users who do not have nutrition facts handy they can also request a food, and thinjoy or someone from the thinjoy community will get the food item into the system as soon as possible.
To lose weight you need to eat less energy (food) than you burn each day. This is referred to as an energy deficit. But before you can begin to think about how many pounds and the corresponding calories you would like to trim, you need to calculate the point when your energy in equals your energy out, the point when you are neither gaining nor losing weight.
This is a rather tricky process. Our energy balance feature will help you through it. And we offer two different ways to come up with your energy balance number.
After you have confidently identified your energy balance number you can then begin to think about how much weight you would like to lose, and the timeframe you would like to lose it in.
We focus on sustainable weight loss goals, ones in which you can be sure you can maintain the weight loss. The weight loss feature allows you to figure out what is right for you, and help you understand what you will need to do to meet your overall weight loss goals.
